      Description

      Used the following module file to upgrade my 3.5.1 agents to 3.7.1:

      class plugpc::puppet_test
      {
      package

      { 'puppet' : ensure => '3.7.1-1puppetlabs1', require => Package[ 'dmidecode','puppet-common' ]; }

      package

      { 'puppet-common' : ensure => '3.7.1-1puppetlabs1', require => Package[ 'dmidecode' ]; }

      package

      { 'facter' : ensure => '2.2.0-1puppetlabs1', require => Package[ 'puppet-common' ] }

      package

      { 'dmidecode' : ensure => 'latest'; }

      file

      { '/etc/default/puppet' : ensure => 'file', source => 'puppet:///modules/plugpc/default/puppet' }

      file

      { '/etc/puppet/puppet.conf' : content => template("plugpc/puppet_conf.erb"); }

      service

      { 'puppet' : ensure => 'running', enable => true, }

      }

      After this is applied (successfully) the clients will report the following error message in /var/log/syslog at each subsequent run of the agent:

      <date:time> <hostname> puppet-agent[<pid>]: Could not retrieve local facts: Invalid facter option(s) type
      <date:time> <hostname> puppet-agent[<pid>]: Failed to apply catalog: Could not retrieve local facts: Invalid facter option(s) type

      Note that applying update via 'apt-get upgrade puppet' results in a successful upgrade (working system).

      Some dependency is missing from the apt files for either facter, puppet or puppet-common.

      Also - this error message is pretty lame. Maybe put something that would actually lead to the source of the problem?
