It would be handy to pass an environment parameter to multiple types, similar to how it is done for exec. Sometimes, because it only exists in exec, folks will resolve to using an exec resource instead of a more native resource solely because that resource type is missing environment and similar other features. So instead of having folks fall into the exec anti-pattern out of constraints, we should open that up.

David Lutterkort, this is something we're not likely to do anytime soon in Puppet, but may be worth considering in the libral design.

Thank you for filing this issue. We agree it is likely an improvement, but due to other issues demanding precedence, we don’t anticipate being able to address this any time soon. As such we are closing this as “Won’t Fix.” We may revisit it at a later time, and if so will re-open this ticket.
